Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy :: My Philosophy of Education

Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy Why do I want to become a teacher? When I think about that question, I’m sure a few of my answers would be like some of the others in the class: I love being around people, the pay isn’t too bad, you get holidays, summers, even weekends off, and I don’t even mind grading papers! On the other hand, I do have another reason I’d like to become a teacher that’s probably a little different than others. Let me explain. It was January and colder that ever. The weather didn’t seem to faze me at all as I got off the bus and rushed up my hill. The few steps from the end of the driveway to my front porch seemed like miles. I opened the door only to find an empty house. No one was there like I expected. I was going to be an aunt for the first time and I was looking forward to finding out it was going to boy or a girl. It seemed as though the whole day went by until I saw our car in the driveway. I rushed to the door anxious and excited, only to find tears dropping from my mom’s eyes, and my sister-in-law Holly sadder than I’d ever seen anyone. My mom took me in the bedroom and explained to me the ultra sound showed some serious problems with the baby. He had spina-bifida and severe fluid on his brain. She explained that the doctors said my nephew had little to no chance of living, but if some miracle would happen and my nephew would live, he would live a very short life and be a complete vegetable. A month and a half went by and on May 14,1993 Terry Paul Daniels was born. His little head was the size of a basketball and he had a hole in the lower part of his back. Within the first three days of Terry’s life he had four surgeries, rode in a helicopter, and faced death a number of times. Since then, Terry’s had four more surgeries, been in a complete body cast, and went through his parents getting a horrible divorce. Through all of this something that happened to him when he was in kindergarten sticks out to me the most.

Descriptive Essay About Hawaii - 1329 Words

Underwater, I can’t breath, I can’t see, my lungs are burning. Welcome to Hawaii, one of the most desired vacation spots. Everything is gorgeous, the weather is perfect, the landscape is spectacular, and the Ocean is breathtaking, especially in the inside. Under the sea, which is supposedly the best according to Sebastian. He could not be more wrong, at least in my case. Unless the top sight everyone is dying to see is sand shooting at speeds that would get it a ticket or the beautiful salt water that is forcing itself into both eyes. How did I get to this point, struggling to survive, hoping the Ocean gets tired of me so I can take a breath and pray that it has enough mercy to leave me where I have the strength to swim to shore where my†¦show more content†¦Everything was great until the one fateful wave. That wave, that one wave, the one that changed everything. My feet are swept from under me. Swirling around under the waves that were just caressing my body meekly a few seconds ago. I am powerless to the strength of the ocean. This was beginning to be a Hawaiian roller coaster that I definitely did not want to ride anymore. I am shot back to the reality of where I was. The sand that was so smooth and friendly before was now my worst enemy. It is everywhere, on my face, scraping my body against the rough floor of the sea. I felt the different waves pulling me in different directions like two dogs playing tug-of-war, eventually the bigger dog won and I am being catapulted out to sea. A sharp seashell threw itself at me in the midst of the chaos, like those kids that only do something because everyone else is. Wasn’t I just like that? That was the whole reason I was in this situation in the first place. Thoughts of earlier in the hot tub suddenly popped into my mind. Me and some of my other siblings were messing around in the pool, going underwater and using my ever prepared sister, Brittany’s stopwatch to see who could sta y under the longest. I could only hold my breath for thirty seconds. What if the water held me hostage longer than that? What if this was truly the end.
